Cycle of Success
STEP 1: Connection Support
The Connection Support program builds multi-cultural connections through volunteer projects in other countries. Global Ambassadors, comfortable in various international native sign languages, work with the local community members in countries around the world to improve existing educational facilities, share information, experience a cultural exchange.
STEP 2: Skill Support
The Skills Support program sends teams of Deaf education professionals to countries around the world for a volunteer teaching experience. The volunteers inspire Deaf students and share teaching techniques and communication skills with local teachers.
STEP 3: College Support
The College Support program sponsors Deaf high school graduates around the world in teacher training colleges in their own countries and provides the students with equal access to communication by hiring full-time sign language interpreters. GDC then advocates for equal employment with new Deaf teachers by on-going communication with their governments.
STEP 4: Mentor Support
The Mentor Support program connects experienced Deaf education teachers around the world with the new Deaf education teachers in developing countries, using their native sign languages as the basis for one-on-one coaching and long distance exchanges over several years. Focusing on integrating culture with education, the goal of this program is threefold:
- To develop jointly the specific tools needed for the target culture;
- To give beginning Deaf teachers the confidence needed to succeed;
- To support these teachers become mentors for future Deaf graduates to complete the cycle of sustainable support.
