Our Work
Deaf students need Deaf teachers.
Two years ago, Global Deaf Connection sponsored the education of eight deaf Kenyans at a teacher training college in Kenya and provided them with full-time interpreters. This past July, that group graduated and the new Deaf Kenyan teachers are obtaining teaching positions at eight different Deaf schools across Kenya! Kenya has 41 schools for Deaf children with approximately 100 students at each school.
One Deaf Kenyan teacher provides over 100 Deaf Kenyan students, year after year, with a positive Deaf role model. A rapidly increasing number of Deaf teachers soon will generate an increase in Deaf school administrators, and eventually, in other Deaf professionals throughout society. Our dream here at GDC is to see every Deaf school in Kenya have at at least one Deaf teacher.

Tuition for a Deaf Kenyan to attend teaching college and become a lifetime teacher and mentor is only $1,400. That includes room and board, books, uniforms and a full-time sign language interpreter. If you are interested in making a donation to GDC to pay for a teacher's tuition or even just some school supplies, please click on the link below.
